Hands-On, Interactive Learning
As our school year begins to come to an end, I would like to share this video of my class doing various math activities. As many of you may already know, I never do worksheets in my classroom and instead prefer hands-on, interactive activities that help students become self-guided, independent, and responsible learners. Worksheets will not help our students thrive in the 21st century. After watching this video, I hope you can recognize the conversations as students collaborate and communicate with each other. Students are also using problem solving skills and very creative thinking ("I'm measuring his head") to learn new ways of learning and exploring math objectives. Each child also had a choice on what they would work on during this math time and also can switch activities at any time during the session. Choice is a powerful way to provide students an opportunity to learn from their peers and from themselves.

Bye-bye Butterflies!
Today we released the butterflies outside (they didn't seem to like being kept in a cardboard box in our classroom). It was very exciting and I am happy to say that all three butterflies successfully flew off into the world.

We Love Charlotte's Web
Yesterday we finished Charlotte's Web and it was so exciting. Since we have SOLS in our school and we have to be very quiet (no recess, no library, and no computer lab). We have begun watching the movie. The students love to see the our latest chapter book come alive on our big smartboard screen.

Growing and Changing!
Our caterpillars ate all weekend and they are three times the size they were on Friday. Our plants also grew tremendously over the weekend. It is so exciting to see things grow and change in kindergarten.
Good Luck Third Grade and Fifth Grade
Starting tomorrow our wonderful third graders and fifth graders will begin taking SOL tests. We always want our school friends to do well on all tests, so kindergarteners will not have any recess, library, or computer lab this week. We will not be exchanging library books all week. Thanks!
